Brian's blood gas level decreased slightly after disconnecting him from ECMO. They have increased the vent setting slightly (which they have pleanty of room for). They have also given him blood and a new drug called Tham to control his acid level and blood preasure. The doctors told me they are paying close attention to this development but are not panicking. They take another blood gas at 7:30. This situation is stressfull but not unexpected. Now that ECMO is not available the doctors will constantly be working to find a good balance. Today's trial went so well because they were able to disconect Brian from ECMO with room to adjust levels of support if necessary.
