Brian began the night doing well. The nurse that had him all day was able to ween him completely off the epinephrine. At about midnight he took a turn for the worse. We are told that he did not look good physically and his blood gas went down. If I understand correctly blood gas shows oxygen saturation, or how much oxygen is in the blood. Brian was scheduled for a chest xray this morning which was moved up. The doctors found that Brian had a fluid build up on the right side of his chest around his lung. In a fifteen minute procedure they inserted a chest tube on right side to mach his chest tube on the left. The doctors drained 100 cc's of clear liquid, not blood. Brian's blood gas immediately went back up. He's doing well again this morning and the new antibiotic must be helping because his blood pressure has not been an issue.
